We view equity growth as the fundamental building block of a founder's financial success and the critical aspect of creating financial security for a founder. We've successfully worked on equity growth with multiple founders over many years.

Our history of founding, investing in and advising tech companies gives us a broad range of experiences to call on and a strong network to work with.

The process

The process can be done in a number of ways, but generally includes:

  • Metrics driven growth (marketing and customer efficiency): ensuring that the right operating system for scale is in place, relationships and people are setup for success (alignment, performance) and the ingredients are all there to scale the company well

  • Level order management: ensuring that the right goals and resources are in place, they are regularly tracked (and adjusted) and the vision and goals are clearly communicated throughout the company

  • Financial optimisation: shareholder value led focus on financial modelling, financing, shareholder liquidity, acquisitions and strategic relationships

The stages

Our equity growth model is based on a five stage approach:

  1. Stage one: we conduct a strategic review of the business, the market and the opportunity. We establish a three year growth plan and ensure alignment with your shareholders, leadership and team

  2. Game mode: growth targets are being hit, key metrics look good, and now it is time to look at doubling down on growth and/or at opportunities to take some chips off the table

  3. Levelling up: three horizons are in place, world class leadership team is in place and a timeline to a meaningful event (like an IPO) is established

  4. Shot at greatness: process for a meaningful event is underway to provide liquidity and/or additional resources for growth, there is a clear path to leadership in core market

  5. Multiplatform mode: continued growth and potential expansion to adjacencies or new markets

We generally have an intensive period when we start working together to get everything set up. Once we're in the flow of working well together, we usually catch up for a monthly deep dive and a mid-month work in progress catch up (but can meet more frequently if needed).

Is the equity growth model the right fit for me?

We typically work with founders that have been on the journey for a while, want to work closely with an experienced team to level up and where we can see a clear path to help maximise the value of the founder's equity through growth.

Generally founders are running a tech, tech-enabled or product based company with meaningful revenue and haven't raised institutional capital (venture/private equity), but we've made exceptions to this on some occasions.

Our equity growth model isn't for all founders. We're happy to have a chat and explore but you'll know (and we'll know) very quickly if we should work together or not. If it isn't a strong fit, we're happy to refer you on to others in our network who might be able to help.

How do you evaluate founders to work with?

Before working with founders in this program we work through a due diligence process to ensure there is a fit, there is a real potential for a great outcome and a high likelihood of success. We also encourage you to do due diligence on us. Speak to others in the community or ask us for references.

How many founders do you work with at a time?

We only work with a very small number. We are very selective about the founders we work closely with and are in the fortunate position that we don't have to take on any new relationships unless we feel there is a real win-win opportunity.

I'm looking to raise money now, can you invest or help me raise equity?

We aren’t a traditional investment firm and we generally don't run fundraising processes (for equity) unless we've already been working together over a period of time. Generally we work with founders over a period of a few years to create value. If you're looking to exit now, we're probably not the right fit. We do have a good relationship with a number of buyers for companies so if you are looking to sell, please reach out and we might be able to connect you with someone in our network.
